Whaling in 1670

Most likely, Willem de Vlamingh sailed out every year to go whaling before he worked for the VOC. Through a notarial deed, we discovered that in 1670 he sailed on a ship named the Prins Wilhelm te Paerd. This passage can be found in the chapter Whaling.

Authorization by Willempie

In December 1696, while her husband was on the great voyage to the unknown land, Willempie authorized a certain Hilbrant van der Heijde to collect money on her behalf from someone (unfortunately, it is not stated who owed her money). Should that person fail to pay, Hilbrant van der Heijde would represent her case before the highest court. This deed underscores the impression we already gained from everything else we found out about Willem's wife: she really held her own. The deed of authorization can be found under the heading "Willempie's character" in the chapter Willempie.
