The name of Willem in the Rotterdam Archive

On September 12, 1664, a deed was drawn up by notary Jacob Delphius in Rotterdam concerning the conflict between Willem Hesselsz de Vlamingh and Cornelis de Swedt. These two commanders had entered into a contract together during the whaling voyage. According to Willem, Cornelis is not honoring the agreements. Jacob Jelmersz Cock sends the notary in Rotterdam to investigate; judging by the account, the notary visits Commander de Swedt and also shipowner Engelbrecht twice, requesting a copy of the contract, but does not get one of either of them.

The truth compels me to say that I once found this deed, but when I wanted to use it on this website, I could no longer locate it. One email to the Rotterdam City Archives and I was immediately assisted in retrieving it in a friendly and professional manner. For anyone who also wishes to read these deeds, see Notarissen te Rotterdam, 412, scans 279 and 280.

Anyone who is able to read Dutch will find a transcription of this text on my Dutch website.
